Word of the Day Espresso Shot
6 minutes running. 1 minute walking. Repeat.
That running strategy, although unconventional, works for Dr. Robert Hamilton– a pediatrician in his 60s.
It works so well, in fact, that Dr. Hamilton has run marathons using it. He says it aligns with God’s commandment for honoring the Sabbath– working for 6 days and resting for 1.
Christians in today’s society would do well to follow Dr. Hamilton’s lead in their everyday life. It’s in vogue to pretend like we have no limits at all– and don’t need any breaks from work, school, or simply everyday life. 20 years ago, just under half of Americans went to church regularly– and that percentage has declined every year since. Even though it’s one of the Ten Commandments, for some, honoring the Sabbath feels like admitting to a limit.
But as Tricia pointed out in today’s podcast, we all fall short in every area of our lives– even and especially when we seek God. But in the same way that God forgave David for his long list of sins, when we truly repent, God forgives. We can be honest about our limits as humans, because Jesus died on the cross to atone for every single one of our sins. Our role is to simply admit we are sinners, accept His forgiveness, and commit our lives to following God.
Today’s Challenge
What limits do you struggle to admit to yourself and to God? Maybe it’s hard for you to admit that you ultimately can’t control your kids’ behavior. Maybe you work lots of hours and don’t see a problem with that. If you’re not sure, ask God if there’s an area in your life you need to surrender to Him and let Him fill in your gaps.
Memory Verse
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.” Psalm 51:11
