Word of the Day Espresso Shot
Word of the Day: Arrogance
Stacy sighed and pulled her hair back into a ponytail. “Almost finished,” she muttered to herself.
For the last couple of months, she had been working with a client that really rubbed her the wrong way.
During every interaction she had with him, he would say something very arrogant. The pride seemed to drip off this man like candlewax. And after weeks of cringing at his obvious pride, Stacy was excited to finally complete the project and not have to deal with him anymore.
That night, Stacy took a shower and crawled into bed, scrolling on Instagram. Suddenly, she came across a post that made her stop in her tracks. It was a white background with black type. The text read:
“The more pride we have, the more other people’s pride irritates us.” -C.S. Lewis
Stacy read the quote three times, gulped, and set her phone down. Conviction pierced her heart. She had been judging her client for his arrogance. But as she did that, she was being prideful herself.
Stacy grabbed a notebook and wrote down the C.S. Lewis quote so she wouldn’t forget. Then, she said a prayer of repentance for her pride.
Today’s Challenge
Do you struggle with pride? Say a prayer and ask God to cleanse you of any arrogance or pride— even what you aren’t aware of.
Memory Verse
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” 1 Peter 5:6
