Word of the Day: Tower

“Mom, I don’t want to go to school today.”

Maria pursed her lips and bent down so she would be eye-to-eye with her 7 year old daughter.

“Are the girls leaving you out again,” Maria asked, and her daughter nodded.

Maria had heard the story several times— every day when her daughter was at lunch, a group of girl who used to be her friends would make a show out of excluding her from their table. Maria’s heart was breaking, but she wasn’t sure how to help her daughter.

“I know it hurts to be rejected,” Maria started. “But you know who never rejects you and always is with you?”

God?” Maria’s daughter squeaked out.

Maria started getting an idea, and started talking as her illustration took shape.

“Do you know how your lunchroom has those big, white pillars? Well, next time you’re feeling hurt and alone, I want you to look at one of those big white pillars. God is like that. There’s a verse in Isaiah that calls Him a “strong tower.” God is strong, even when we are not.”

Maria’s daughter nodded slowly, looking skeptical. But later that day, she came home, smiling.

“Mom, it worked. I looked at those pillars and I thought about how God is strong. And I was strong too.”

Maria wrapped her daughter up and closed her eyes, whispering a prayer of thanks.

Today’s Challenge

As Michelle and Tricia explained in today’s podcast, when we go against God, He will fight against us. But when we repent and humble ourselves before Him, He will be our strong tower. Pray and ask God to purify your heart and be your strong tower.

Memory Verse

“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the LORD always, for the LORD God is the eternal Rock.” Isaiah 26:3-4

Michelle mentioned Leviathan in today’s podcast— a sea creature and a metaphor for Israel’s enemies. It’s referenced in other parts of the Bible as well:
