once said, “Mundanity is what we all have in common.”He had that simple yet profound thought while traveling to another country and realizing that everyone in the world, regardless of location or social status, lives their day to day life in some form of mundanity.
If we’re not intentional, we as Christians can let the drudgery of ordinary days affect our relationship with God, too. Even if we attend church and read our Bible regularly, we must also spend time in God’s presence and reflect on His works.
If you’ve lost some of that awe of God’s sovereignty today, reflect on this thought from John Bevere in his book The Awe of God:
“We’re so valued, He thinks about us continuously. All the sand! Think of all the sand on earth – every beach, desert, and golf course. That’s an enormous amount! Science and math enthusiasts tell us that depending on the size and how tightly packed, there are approximately five hundred million to a billion granules of sand in one cubic square foot of beach. Our minds would struggle to comprehend the vast number of granules on just the Florida beaches. But think of it – if you add up all the granules of sand on the planet, you still wouldn’t have the number of thoughts God has about you! . . . Ask yourself this question: What do you predominately think of? You rarely think about something you don’t value.”
Today’s Challenge
Get out in nature today and focus on God’s amazing works. Lay on your back and stare at the clouds. Watch a bird soaring. Look your child in the eye and focus on their little nose and magical smile. Focus on what God has made, and your awe of Him will grow immediately.
Memory Verse
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Colossians 1:16-17

Going Deeper than a Venti: Reflection and Journal Prompt
As Tricia and Michelle noted in today’s podcast, we started a new book of the Bible today! Here are some facts about Amos, building on to what was already mentioned in the podcast.
Amos wasn’t from a family of prophets…he was a fig farmer. Chuck Swindoll noted that this occupation is worth noting because, “Amos’s connection to the simple life of the people made its way into the center of his prophecies, as he showed a heart for the oppressed and the voiceless in the world.”
Amos 1 mentions a “vision he saw two years before the earthquake.” Archaeologists have found extensive evidence that an earthquake did, indeed, happen two years later. Damage consistent with an 8.2 magnitude earthquake could be seen in several sites.
In chapter 8, Amos mentions another natural event— a solar eclipse (… “I will make the sun go down at noon and I will darken the earth in broad daylight"- Amos 8:9). Astrologists have found that a solar eclipse did happen before Amos wrote his book, which makes it clear why Amos thought it would be effective imagery.
Amos calls Israel to turn away from the worship of Canaanite gods and back to worshiping Yahweh.
He focuses on justice and God’s power.
