Word of the Day Espresso Shot

“OK. Are you ready?”

At the words of her trip leader, Ruby looked at the bags at her feet and began her mental checklist.

She had clothes— long, flowing skirts, folded up as small as they would go. Sandals. Toiletries— including a travel sized bottle of her favorite shampoo.

She had snacks and two refillable water bottles.

Her rain jacket. Insect repellant and sunscreen.

And around her neck, she had her passport along with some cash.

She was as ready as she could be physically. But there was still something holding her back.

Ruby leaned in to her friend Tara, who was zipping up her own pack.

“What if I don’t feel ready,” Ruby whispered. Tara met her eyes and gave an encouraging smile.

“Is anyone ever ready to go on their first trip to a third-world country? Don’t forget that God is right here with us. Ask Him to remind you of His presence and give you His peace.”

Tara stood up, slung her backpack over her shoulder, and motioned for Ruby to do the same.

Together, they followed their trip leader and marched forward to board their plane— as ready as they could ever be.

Today’s Challenge

You may think this doesn’t apply to you, since you are probably not jet-setting off into a missionary adventure. But if you are a Christian, you are “sent” to your everyday life. Are you showing up prepared? Get in God’s word and pray to ask Him to open your eyes. Live like you are sent— because you are. Let the stories we read in the Bible inspire you that God can use any and every situation for His kingdom.

Memory Verse

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8
