Word of the Day Espresso Shot
Word of the Day: Obedience
“You need to move homes as soon as you can,” her doctor told her sternly.
Although Kayleen was young, she had been diagnosed with complicated hip problems. Her doctor told her she needed to move to a one-level home to avoid injuring herself further.
But Kayleen was raising four boys, taking care of her mother-in-law with dementia, and also supporting her husband at his demanding job. She didn’t have the energy or the time to put the house up for sale, and the current housing market wasn’t promising, either.
So after her doctor’s appointment, Kayleen prayed a prayer of surrender. “God, if you want us to move, make it abundantly clear.”
Ring ring.
Four weeks later, Kayleen answered the phone, and was surprised to hear the voice of the realtor they had purchased the home with.
“I know this is out of the blue,” the realtor began hesitantly, “but I have someone who wants to buy your house.’
In her surprise, Kayleen almost dropped the phone. “Our house isn’t for sale,” she answered.
“I know,” the realtor continued. “But they found your house and it’s exactly what they want. They’re offering a good sum of money and they will allow you to rent it while you find another place to live.”
As she hung up, Kayleen glanced up at heaven and chuckled. “OK God. I hear you.”
Today’s Challenge
Another word for obedience is simply surrender. Obeying God means surrendering to His will, whatever that may be, even if it’s inconvenient or odd or out-of-the-blue.
What is God asking you to do today? Ask Him to make things clear, and when He does, accept it with trust.
Memory Verse
“With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments.” -Psalm 119:10

Going Deeper than a Venti: Reflection
Are you trying to make a decision today?
As Tricia mentioned in today’s podcast, one of the topics covered in Psalm 119 is that God’s word is a “lamp to our feet and a light to our path” (v.105).
Since it was written so long ago, some people question if the Bible has any relevance to life decisions and everyday circumstances.
