Word of the Day Espresso Shot

Wendy smiled at the girl in front of her.

Wendy had only been working as a receptionist for the Christian counseling center for a short time, but she had already realized that the most perfect looking people were often the ones who were hurting the most.

She studied this girl and guessed she was probably 19 years old. The girl’s perfect highlights, expensive sweat suit, and perfectly white tennis shoes contrasted with her beat down expression and posture.

Wendy handed her a form, and the girl scurried to the corner to start filling it out. Wendy watched as the girl’s forehead wrinkled with stress as she completed the form and handed it back.

Wendy glanced at the form so she could begin entering the information, and her heart dropped when she saw what the client had checked— she wanted to talk to someone about healing from an abortion.

Tears filled Wendy’s eyes as she clicked through the proper forms, entered the information, and called the client back over. She cleared her throat.

“There is a counselor available next Monday. Would that work for you?”

The girl nodded and looked like she was going to cry.

“Do you think I can really be helped?” The question was whispered in a desperate tone, and Wendy just barely picked up the words.

Wendy smiled gently. “I’ve had four abortions. I met with a counselor, who introduced me to Jesus. And I am totally healed and purified. So yes. You can be helped.”

The shock of hearing Wendy’s story was clear on the young girl’s face. But the shock quickly turned to relief. And after confirming her appointment, she walked away with her shoulders a little straighter.

Today’s Challenge

Surrender your failures to God— even the things you are most ashamed of. Ask Him to purify you. He is willing and able.

Memory Verse

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25
