Word of the Day Espresso Shot
61 years old. Farmer. Slow.
Those were the words to describe a man named Cliff Young. He was a sheep farmer in Australia whose only running experience was herding sheep by foot.
In 1983, he decided to enter a 544 mile ultra marathon race.
At first, he plodded along slowly, way behind the more polished runners. When night came, the experienced runners took a break to sleep a large block of time– but Cliff didn’t know that. He kept running, stopping to only sleep for an hour at a time. And due to his amazing, steadfast stamina and unconventional strategy, Cliff ended up winning the entire ultra marathon.
The difficult thing about being steadfast, especially in our pursuit of Jesus, is that the results don’t seem huge day-to-day. We read a Bible passage, listen to our Christian podcast, pray, and lean on the Holy Spirit to give us strength— but life drones on and it may not seem like it matters. But just like that running farmer– keep going. Keep putting one foot in front of the other. Remain steadfast. And in the end, you will see victory in Jesus— even if it’s not until heaven.
Today’s Challenge
What is something you believe God has laid on your heart, but you have given up on? Is it writing a book? Rekindling your relationship with your spouse? Starting a Bible study at your church? Ask God to give you the strength to remain steadfast despite what results– or lack thereof- you experience on this earth.
Memory Verse
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Today’s Coffee Chat
What is the biggest obstacle for you remaining steadfast in your pursuit of God? Is it silly distractions, like social media? Or is it something deeper, like fear?
Going Deeper than a Venti: Reflection and Journal Prompt
Meditate on the following verses and the different ways God frames the concept of steadfastness:

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me” -Psalms 51:10
“May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.” 2 Thessalonians 3:5
Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life. -James 1:12
“My heart, O God, is steadfast; I will sing and make music with all my soul.” -Psalms 108:1
“For I have always been mindful of your unfailing love and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness.” -Psalms 26:3
