Word of the Day: Responsible
Four-year-old Sarah slid her tiny feet into her mom’s pink high heels. Pretending to be her mom, Sarah sauntered across the floor, enjoying the clack of the shoes. Sarah’s mom, Olivia, watched her from the kitchen, smiling. Sarah then picked up her toy cell phone and started typing away on it. “What are you doing on your phone, Sarah,” Olivia asked, still smiling. Sarah held up one finger to her mom. “Just a minute mom. I’m busy.” Olivia felt her heart drop. She knew her daughter was just mimicking what she had seen her mom do– prioritize digital communication over the person actually in the room with her. Conviction filled Olivia’s heart and she whispered a prayer of apology to God. Good and bad, Sarah was going to copy the behaviors she saw in her mom. Were those behaviors going to be positive or negative?
As Michelle pointed out today, the kings who led God’s people did both good and bad things– and either way, were held responsible. In the same way, all of us are responsible for the impact we have on those we lead– our children, our grandchildren, our co-workers we manage, and those who follow us online.
Today’s Challenge
Consider those you have influence over. Are you taking your responsibility to lead them seriously? Are you influencing them for the better, or for the worse?
Memory Verse
James 4:17: "So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin."
