Word of the Day: Wilderness
They thought they’d never see their “good boy” again.
The Brazier family was traveling thousands of miles from home to visit relatives. They decided to bring their dog on the trip— a collie and English Shepherd mix named Bobbie.
One night on the trip, Bobbie was attacked by a pack of dogs.
He ran away in fear. Despite looking extensively, the family couldn’t find him.
Heartbroken, they headed home to Oregon, about 3,000 miles from where they were visiting relatives in Indiana.
Six months later, they couldn’t believe what they were seeing. Up to their house walked Bobbie- injured, dirty, and worn down. He seemed to have walked the entire distance himself back to his home.
As word of Bobbie’s journey spread, people began to report that they saw him and helped him on his journey. It was determined that he walked and swam the entire journey, including crossing the Continental Divide during winter.
It’s inspiring and amazing to think about Bobbie traveling all those miles to find his family. And to think— that’s nothing compared to the divide God was willing to cross when He sent His son Jesus to rescue us from sin.
We were lost in the wilderness. Lost in our selfishness, self-destruction, hopelessness, and depression. We were thousands of miles away from our true home with God— and because of our sin there were vast rivers, cold winters, and long rough roads between us and God.
But Jesus saw how hard the journey would be and took up his heavy cross anyway. He did whatever it took and he kept going. And because of His bravery, His loyalty, and His persistence, He crossed the divide of sin and brought us into relationship with our Father again.
Today’s Challenge
Imagine if Bobbie had made that long journey, only for his owners to see him walking up and slam the door in his face.
That’s what we do when we turn away Jesus.
He’s not asking us to make the journey. We couldn’t, anyway! He already did the work. All we have to do is open the door of our hearts and let Him in.
If you’ve always shut the door on Jesus but are now thinking about opening it to Him- it’s never too late. He’s waiting for you.

Memory Verse
“He is the Lord our God; his judgments are in all the earth. He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations.” Psalm 105:7-8
