Word of the Day Espresso Shot

Word of the Day: Display

She didn’t do it for show.

She just wanted to help.

Clara Barton began her working years first as a teacher, and then as a clerk.

But when the Civil War began, Clara began working to bring supplies to soldiers.

She began also dressing wounds out of necessity, even though she had no medical experience, eventually being named head nurse and becoming known as an “angel of the battlefield.”

After the war, Clara found out about the Red Cross, an overseas organization, and had the idea to start one in the United States. She lived the rest of her life doing what she had done from the beginning— helping. Not for display— but from her heart1.

Today’s Challenge

God doesn’t want us to live lives that are only for display. Today, reflect on what you are doing “for” God, and what you are doing out of a love for God.

Memory Verse

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17
